I think my Nana will appreciate these posters. I think they beat the heck out of those stupid motivational posters with sayings like, “Live Your Dreams” and “Believe in Yourself” with mountains and animals in the background. Sometimes we need a kick in the rear end to get motivated. I think I might consider purchasing them for the delivery room.
This is my new favorite song. It’s speaking to me. Plus, I love the video. Artist is Yael Naim. Hope it raises your spirits on this dreary Friday, the first day of February 2008.
I don’t watch American Idol, VH1 or MTV and I don’t listen to mainstream radio stations. Therefore, I have decided from now on to rely on others to keep me updated with the hip music scene. Thanks to my sister-in-law, I can now identify such songs as “Crank That” by Soulja Boy Tellem and music from The Fray. When did I grow so old, so fast?
Now, it is my turn to return the favor. I stumbled across this video, by popular UK artist Mika, and can’t decide if it’s awful or awesome. Either way, it makes me laugh and want to squirm around the house.
Login (it’s free) and begin creating your own customizable music stations. Search for “Jingle Bells” and choose your favorite artist from the list, and voila! You’ve got yourself a holiday station. Up to your ears in carols this year? Try your favorite artist, instead. The program chooses music with similar characteristics and just like that, you’ve got 80’s pop.
I am posting this because it’s funny. However it doesn’t accurately depict what goes on in our house during cold season. Matt would never dial 999. And he doesn’t have an accent.
Have you heard of Sugarland? Of course, I’ve heard of Sugarland. I just didn’t know who they were, really.
Seriously. I knew they were a country band of some sort, with a lead female singer…and…well…that’s it. I couldn’t have named names or song titles. Until today.
Last night I recorded the CMA Awards in hopes that the Eagles performance would rock (it didn’t) or some neat tribute to Porter Wagoner featuring Dolly Parton (that didn’t happen either). Instead, I saw Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland perform “Stay” <- Click here to view the video.
Fortunately for me, I recorded it and could watch it over and over again. Fortunately for Matt, he wasn’t around to be tortured with me playing it over and over. But, I discovered I can watch all the Sugarland videos I want on the CMT website. In this over-processed world in which we live in (awards shows included), it is was so refreshing to hear raw talent, acoustic style. But, I wasn’t convinced this was the real deal. Yeah, they’ve got fun songs with beats, but what are they worth following. My ballot is cast and I vote “yes”. Hell, they beat Brooks & Dunn in the “Best Country Duo” category, which is quite an honor considering Brooks & Dunn have won the award 15 of the last 16 years.
